The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

Tajikistan: February 2020

In Tajikistan’s fight against dangerous multi-drug resistant forms of tuberculosis (MDR TB), proper nutrition is required for expensive prescribed treatments to succeed. In the past, regional food insecurity and poor nutrition among vulnerable patient groups has proven a major roadblock in the fight against MDR TB. To address that roadblock, RPX and local nongovernmental partner Avesto met this month in Dushanbe with The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. As a result of the meeting, RPX and Avesto will manage the coordinated distribution of 3 million individual rations of fortified, shelf-stable food to vulnerable patient groups throughout Tajikistan in 2020.

RPX food distributions are made possible through the generous support of the USAID Office of Food for Peace and the International Food Relief Partnership program (IFRP). RPX’s coordinated effort with The Global Fund ensures that US-funded humanitarian assistance will directly support the most critical public health program in Tajikistan, thus enhancing social protection and safety nets for Tajik people in greatest need.
